Golfer scores a bride at annual tournament

    MARS HILL – The 17th Annual Crime Stoppers Golf Tournament was held on Saturday and Sunday, July, 26-27. There were 40 teams who participated in the annual fund-raiser, including local newlyweds.

    Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Tim) York, III pose by the Tom York, Jr. Memorial Plaque at the 17th Annual Crime Stopper’s Golf Tournament on July 27, 2008 at the Mars Hill Country Club. Tim and Leanne (Levesque) surprised everyone by exchanging wedding vows on Saturday, July 26 shortly before their 12:30 p.m. tee time.  This will be a hard act to follow at the next Tournament!!

    Winners of the Women’s Gross was the team of Ursula Johnston, Alexis Madore, Betty Deveau and Sandi Beaupre with a score of 61. Women’s Net winners were Jamie Roy, Chantal MacIntosh, Natalie Hemphill and Jill Dunnett with a score of 55.
    Winners of the Men’s/Mixed Net was the team of Kelly Kingsbury, Scott Kingsbury, Brock Kingsbury and Matthew Drosdik with a score of 49. First Gross winners were Fred London, Steve Merry, Warren Walker and Jerry Adams with 56.
    The Second Net team included Lloyd Allen, Peter Allen, Martin Wheeler and Mitchell Wheeler (50). The Second Gross team was Kurt MacDowell, Aaron Flannery, Tim Hartin and Scott Walker (57).
    Third Net was Dick Porter, Arthur London, Troy Durost and Steve Milliard (51); and Third Gross was Louis Labrie, Mike Rioux, Nelson Bouchard and Bill Boucher (57).
    The Fourth Net was Scott Kingsbury, Matthew Drosdik, George Brewer and Mitchell Wheeler (52). Fourth Gross was Chad Arnold, Sean Smith, Jason Kennedy and Brad Trombley (58).
    Closest to the sheriff winners were: Saturday – John York (12 feet 2 inches) and Sunday – Nelson Bouchard (3 feet 11 inches). Closest to the pin on number 6 was Brock Kingsbury (1 foot 11.5 inches).  Closest to the pin on  number 8 was Jeff Clark, who won two round-trip tickets from Presque Isle to Boston from Colgan Air. Longest Putt on  number 12 was Mike Rioux (35 feet 6 inches).  
    Closest to the pin on  numbe 13 was Wilder York (6 feet 3.5 inches). Closest to the pin on  number 15 was Kevin Barnes (3 feet 1 inch). Winner of the longest drive on  number 18 was Brad Trombley.
    A big thank-you goes out to all the golfers and sponsors of this tournament for their support of Crime Stoppers.
    The biggest winners of the tournament were Thomas (Tim) York, III and Leanne Levesque, who surprised everyone by getting married on the course. Tim and Leanne exchanged vows beside the Edgar Wheeler Memorial Bench at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, with Cheryl Palm officiating.  Tim invited his mother and brother to come to the course for some family pictures, then surprised them with a wedding!  
    Congratulations, Tim and Leanne! The couple then got busy playing golf with a tee time of 12:30 p.m.!
