Ominous skies over Mt. Katahdin

Image    Saturday’s freak summer storm as seen from the scenic Mount Katahdin lookout on Route 11 south of Patten. Photographer Deb Bivighouse was coming home from Millinocket and saw that her family farm was right below the black cloud. It was 82 degrees (according to the thermometer on our truck's rear view mirror). ”We drove up Happy Corner Road through the storm and trees were coming down along the road beside us. It was really terrifying, visibility was nil and the sound of the wind and hail was deafening. Only about 10 minutes later, it was hailing and the truck's thermometer registered 46 degrees. All of the neighbors I have seen since then agree it was the worst storm they can remember.” she said.
