The grand finale of the Vintage Fashion Show on Thursday, part of the Maine Potato Blossom Festival in Fort Fairfield, featured handmade silk gowns, created for and worn by Cora Reed, wife of former Sri Lankan Ambassador and Maine Gov. John Reed. The gowns were worn to state functions in the 1970s while Reed was ambassador. A woman at the American Embassy sewed the garments for Mrs. Reed. Models from left are Kelsey Towle of Fort Fairfield, Gloria Towle of Easton, Pam Kinsey, Kaitlyn Kinsey and Shannon Towle, all of Fort Fairfield.
Grace Reynolds of Fort Fairfield models a school outfit worn in years past. She carried her lunch in a pail and the hoop and stick were her playthings.
Fort Fairfield’s Ryan Dorsey donned a cowboy outfit of wooly chaps and wrist cuffs made by Leon and Ann Sanders of Livermore. In photo at left, Kelsey Towle appears truly regal in her emerald green gown trimmed in black mink, worn by Cora Reed at her husband, John Reed’s, second gubernatorial inaugural ball.
