TOWNSHIP 6 RANGE 8 – Two men have been charged following an incident at a campground in this remote area of Maine involving a vehicle hitting a cabin.
Maine State Police arrested two men, Isaac Masters, 47, of Westfield, and Wendell Lovely, 49, of Corpus Christi, Texas, and charged both with disorderly conduct. Masters was also charged with operating under the influence in connection with an incident at the Matagamon Lake Wilderness Store and Campground in Township 6 Range 8 the evening of July 7.
“At about 7:30 p.m., Susan Christianson, owner of the Matagamon Campground, called the State Police and advised that a vehicle had run into one of the rental cabins at the campground,” said Sgt. Tom Pelletier, of the MSP.
Pelletier said it was reported that the operator and another male subject were intoxicated, disorderly and had been asked to leave when the crash occurred. Police did not indicate the type of vehicle Masters was driving or the extent of damage to the vehicle. No injuries were reported as the result of the accident.
“State Trooper Timmy Saucier responded to the scene. 47-year-old Isaac Masters, of Westfield, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence and disorderly conduct. Wendell Lovely, 49, of Corpus Christi, Texas, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct,” said Pelletier.
Both men were transported to the Penobscot County Jail. Both men made bail and were released Monday night. According to Pelletier, approximately $1,500 in property damage was caused by the crash. Trooper Saucier was assisted by off-duty Hancock County Deputy Shane Campbell, who was camping at the campground.
