Dog Days of 2008

To the editor:
You may recall the “Dog Days of Summer” event last year in the theater parking lot. It was a huge success and we’re excited to announce that the event will be held this year on Saturday, August 16th at the Riverside Park!
This event is geared toward children, a day out to play games, get their faces painted, bring their dogs to compete in agility courses, or be judged in the dog contests, a day to race a rubber ducky down the river, or eat cotton candy and hot dogs. It’s just a wonderful event with all of the proceeds benefiting the Houlton Animal Shelter.
If you would like to assist, the host of the event is Lorraine Monfils of Hollywood Pet Salon and she will need items to sell at the Farmers Market – so if you have homemade pickles, preserves, jams, garden produce, etc that you can donate, please contact Lorraine. We will also need items for door prizes, items to auction off, so if you are crafty in any way and have a quilt you could donate, or could sew some dog beds, or tote bags, or if you have a wood working shop and would like to make something for us, just contact Lorraine and let her know what you can bring so she can put you on her list. Her number is 532-7387.
Please keep August 16th on your calendar. We will be offering hot dogs and hamburgers, as well as chili, salads, and other items to “eat in” or “take out”, lots of games and lots of prizes. And remember, this is “Dog Days of Summer” – bring your dog! There will be a lot of activities for your dog to participate in, just make sure Rover is leashed please!
