Sixty-eight players, a record number, showed up last Saturday to play in the fourth annual Houlton High School Alumni Scramble. With a bright sunny day and an immaculate golf course to help, lots of birdies were made. The team of Gabe Goodwin, Aaron Peabody, Andrew Peabody and Isaac Baietti went 10 under par to be crowned champions for this 2008 edition. Close behind, as runner-up, was the team of Parker Sanderson, Jamal Murph, Greg Foster and Logan Holmes. Gregg, Sarah and Steve Douglas and Rob Shaw finished third just ahead of the fourth place finishers Dylan Flewelling, Porter and Ian Gervais and Josh McGuire. Barb Wright and Jerry York had Closest to the Pin honors, with 13 feet and 7 feet respectively. Thanks to all the players for their participation.
This Wednesday, July 9, the HCGC is hosting the St. John Valley Senior Ladies Tournament beginning at 9 a.m. The course will be closed for the day. Couples League resumes play this Friday night at 5:30 p.m.; bring your mate and join in the fun nine holes of golf and social hour after.
Twilight action this week has the McGuire/Cleary team ready to nip the Turner/Mailman team to grab the number-one spot in the Mickelson Division. In the Els Division, the Goodwin/Peabody team holds a slim one-point lead over the second place McPartland/Gervais. And in the Woods Division, Fitzpatrick and Dunn lead by three points, but have to play the always tough Crash and Babe team.
