Youth baseball results
    Savings Bank topped Katahdin Trust 11-0 in Minor League action last Wednesday. Brycen Libby and Josiah Morse both singled twice to lead the Savings Bank offense. David Kofstad also reached base safely in all four plate appearances.

Nick Bartlett pounded two hits for Katahdin Trust while Ryan Player added a triple. Oliver Gerrish pitched three shutout innings for Katahdin Trust, and Corrie Kilcollins made some key defensive plays at first base. Libby, Kofstad and Drew Henderson combined for 12 strikeouts for Savings Bank.
    The other field witnessed a pitcher’s duel. Kyle Kilcollins of K of C got the win on the mound, striking out 16 batters in the complete game effort. Grant Stewart also struck out 16 batters for Key Bank. K of C managed to eek across two runs for the 2-0 victory. Kilcollins also paced the offense with two singles, and Jason Bartley added a single. Key Bank got three singles off the bat of Wyatt Kennedy and two from David Hunter.
    Presque Isle hosted a Major League round robin on July 2 with teams from Mars Hill, Ashland, Caribou and two from Presque Isle taking part. Presque Isle took on Ashland in their first game of the day, taking the 8-7 decision. Nick Raineri led Presque Isle with an RBI single and a run scored, and Josh Gordon added two singles and three runs scored. Presque Isle also took on Caribou, dropping the game 5-1. Tyler Seeley smacked a double, and Gordon chipped in with an RBI double.
    The Wildcats dropped their first game against Mars Hill by a score of 7-3. Andrew Michaud hammered a two run single while Ben Buckley gunned down two runners attempting to steal third base. In their second game, Buckley took the mound and scattered five hits through four innings of work. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough, and Caribou came out the 4-1 victors. Michaud’s bat stayed hot with two singles and an RBI. Karson Wilcox singled, walked and scored the lone Wildcat run.
    In week two of the Pony league the Wildcats took on Mars Hill with a one run game in the Wildcats’ favor. For the Cats, Isaac Lajoie had the only extra base hit stroking a double while Brock Cassidy had two base hits. Brennan Shaw and Wilder York both had singles. Defensively, Lajoie, Cassidy, Cody Flannery and Andrew Legassie all made important plays to keep the game tied until the sixth inning when Mars Hill took the add. Brennan Shaw and W. York struck out 11 and gave up only two runs in the losing effort with a score of 2-1.
    In the middle of the week RBD hosted Ashland. Landon Keiser took the hill for RBD striking out nine through four innings to earn the win. At the plate for RBD, Dillon Kingsbury and Jacob Player both had three hits, three RBIs and reached base five times safely. Evan Waddell and Ben McKenna both had two hits. Andrew Wilcox, Ryan Bernier, Jacob Williams and Josh Reed all produced hits. RBD won by a score of 14-4.
    Wrapping up independence week the Presque Isle teams went head-to-head. Player and Kingsbury combined for 10 strikeouts, and gave up 16 runs in the losing effort for RBD. On the winning side, W. York and Ryley Norton struck out nine but gave up only five runs. The five hitters for RBD were Player with a double, Kingsbury with a double, and Jacob Williams, Zack Campbell and Ryan Bernier with singles.
    W. York had a gem of a day at the plate for the Wildcats earning three triples and reaching base safely all four of his at bats. Also hitting for the Cats were Shaw with two and Lajoie with two while Brock Cassidy, Amos Dean and Andrew LeGassie all with one hit. Ethan York made a spectacular catch in center field to cap of the win for the Cats. The final score was Wildcats 15, RBD 5. The Wildcats record improves to 3-1 while RBD drops to 2-2.
Junior softball
    Nine junior softball league teams, for girls’ 12-years-old and under, from around the County met in Ashland last Thursday for an elimination tournament. Ashland, Mars Hill, Madawaska, Houlton, Caribou, Fort Fairfield, Limestone, Washburn and Presque Isle competed for the title. In the semifinals, Ashland defeated Madawaska and Fort Fairfield defeated Limestone. Ashland and Fort Fairfield were named co-champions after a rain-shortened final game.
Outdoor Pool
    The Outdoor Pool is now open for the summer. Hours are Monday to Friday from 2 to 4:45 p.m. and 6 to 7:45 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4:45 p.m.
    Drain Days for the pool are July 16 and July 30.
