Members of the cooking crew at the annual Swedish pancake breakfast on July 4 were from left, Carol (Wardwell) Hanley of Raymond, Pastor Dave Moore of New Sweden, and Lois (Wardwell) Knight of North Yarmouth. The breakfast, held at the Aroostook Brigade Lodge in Stockholm, is a fundraiser for the lodge, which was started more than 40 years ago by the Wardwell sisters’ father, the late Alton Wardwell of Stockholm. The lodge, owned by the Baptist Churches in Stockholm and New Sweden, is a popular location for youth and other area programs. More than 300 people were served pancakes, strawberries, ham and beans, raising about $2,000.

John and Rosemary Hede were the grand marshals for the 2008 4th of July parade on Stockholm. Known for their numerous ways of serving the community, the couple is active in the Stockholm Historical Society and operated the former Hede’s Grocery at Madawaska Lake.
