MARS HILL – The school gymnasium was crowded in Mars Hill for both Class Night and graduation activities on June 5 and 6, as the 33 members of the Class of 2008 graduated.
Class Night began with a welcome by Class President Ryan Kilcollins. The Class History was presented by Miranda Levesque and Michelle Tweedie, the Class Prophesy was presented by Amber Bradley, Ashley Brewer and Abby Young, and the Class Will was presented by Kayla Day and Sarah Long.
There were many awards and scholarships presented during class night. Varsity Softball awards were presented by Coach Codrey to: Latisha Neece – Coaches Award, Robyn Graham, Ashley Brewer, Lisa-Marie Mean, Sarah Long and Alexandria Dame. Varsity Baseball awards were presented by Coach York to: Tyson White, Cameron York, Logan McCarthy and Blake McCarthy. Bridgewater Recreation Awards were presented to: Megan DeLong, Shelby Hallett – Outstanding Service Award, and Ashlee Prior.
Steve Dame, athletic director, presented awards to 25 members of the class of 2008 who were part of five championship teams during their years at CAHS. He also presented the Business Award to Latisha Neece for Economics, to Ashlee Prior for Business Overall and to Amber Bradley for Accounting. TRUST Team Awards were presented by Mrs. Findlen to: Michelle Tweedie, Jordan Robinson, Cameron York and Abigail Young. She also recognized Jordan, Abigail Young and Lisa-Marie Mean for their work as her Health Aides.
Mrs. Norsworthy presented French Awards to Amanda Mott and Kristina Corey and the Speech Award to Michelle Tweedie. Social Sciences Awards were presented by Mr. Brown to Shelby Hallett, Miranda Levesque, Latisha Neece and Cameron York. Mrs. Brewer presented Yearbook Awards to Shelby Hallett and Editor Alexandria Dame. A special presentation was made to Mrs. Norsworthy, to whom the class had dedicated the yearbook. Mrs. Brewer presented Student Council Awards to Greg Cousins, Michelle Tweedie and Student Council President Jordan Robinson.
Science Awards were presented by Mrs. Grass to Latisha Neece – Forensics, Lisa-Marie Mean – Anatomy, and Amber Bradley – Science Aide. Miss Potter presented Math Awards to Tyson White and Kara Cushman. Mrs. Barker presented the English Award to Ashlee Prior and the Writing Award to Katherine Palmer. Mrs. York presented awards to her library aides: Caleb Grass, Megan DeLong, Miranda Levesque, Kara Cushman, Ashley Brewer, Logan McCarthy, Blake McCarthy and Lee Gagnon.
Honor Roll Awards were presented by Mrs. York and Mrs. Barker. One hundred percent of this class have been on the Honor Roll at least once during their time at school. They accumulate points throughout their school years, with one point being awarded for being on the honor roll, two points for high honors and three for highest honors. There were six class members that accumulated over 32 points.
Principal Kevin Grass made the following presentations: Office Aides – Caleb Grass, Ashlee Prior and Abby Young. Logan McCarthy was recognized for Perfect Attendance. Class members that had been named Students of the Month included Megan DeLong, Shelby Hallett, Latisha Neece, Kristina Corey, Tyson White, Cameron York and Alexandria Dame.
Named Student of the Year was Tyson White. Ryan Kilcollins was recognized as Class President. Cameron York was recognized for receiving the Maine Principal’s Award.
Graduation night saw the class marching into a packed auditorium, with many friends and family gathered to help celebrate this milestone with the graduates. Salutatorian Ashlee Prior addressed the audience and said that, “graduation can seem like the end; the end of childhood, the end of dependency, the end of carefree days. However, graduation is just the beginning; the beginning of a new life, a life filled with all the hopes and dreams of the future, a future so bright we have to wear shades!”
Vocal selections were sung by Michelle Tweedie – “I’ll Stand By You” and Lisa-Marie Mean – “I’ll Remember You.” A slide presentation prepared by Latisha Neece and Robyn Graham was enjoyed by all.
Valedictorian Cameron York encouraged everyone to never stop dreaming and setting goals. Just remember that we didn’t achieve our dreams and goals by ourselves, he said, noting, “The support and encouragement from our parents, coaches, fans, teachers, and each other made” many of our goals possible. “Class of 2008, I want to encourage and challenge all of you to continue dreaming and believe that the impossible can happen.”
Class President Ryan Kilcollins ended the evening by reminding his classmates that “Though some will move away and some will stay, there is one thing that no one can ever take away and that is our friendships and memories that we have made in the past 13 years.”
There were many scholarships awarded during graduation. The ACAP Head Start Scholarship was awarded to Tyson White. The Bob Doak Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Ryan Kilcollins and Caleb Grass. The CAHS Alumni Scholarships were awarded to Kayla Day and Jordan Robinson. The CAHS Faculty / Staff Scholarships were awarded to Tyson White, Frank Allen, Ashley Brewer and Abby Young.
The Cecil Estabrook Scholarships were awarded to: Cameron York, Alexandria Dame, Tyson White, Kara Cushman, Abby Young, Ryan Kilcollins, Ashley Brewer, Amber Bradley, Latisha Neece and Greg Cousins. The Chris Sincerbeaux Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Alexandria Dame. The C.P. Whittaker Scholarship was awarded to Ashley Brewer.
The Dana B. & Arlene McCrum Scholarship was awarded to Frank Allen. The Don L. McCrum Scholarship was awarded to Tyson White. The Early College for ME Scholarship was awarded to Lisa-Marie Mean. The Edith Kimball Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Robyn Graham, Michelle Tweedie, Caleb Grass, Lee Gagnon, Frank Allen and Blake McCarthy. The Fred Sylvester Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Alexandria Dame.
The Robert Mahan Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Jordan Robinson. The Gregg Grass Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Ashlee Prior. The Harvest Scholarships were awarded to: Amber Bradley, Michelle Tweedie, Alexandria Dame, Kayla Day, Jordan Robinson, Abby Young, Greg Cousins, Logan McCarthy, Blake McCarthy, Megan DeLong, Ashlee Prior, Kara Cushman, Amanda Sam, Sarah Long, Cameron York and Ryan Kilcollins.
The Jack L. Harvath Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Tyson White and Amanda Sam. The J. Harden Shaw Christian College Scholarship was awarded to Cameron York. The Jay Bradbury Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Cameron York. The Knights of Columbus Scholarship was awarded to Michelle Tweedie. The Lois Terrell Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Tyson White.
The Maine Principals’ Association Award was presented to Cameron York. The Mars Hill and Blaine Community Club Scholarships were awarded to: Tyson White, Greg Cousins, Lee Gagnon and Travis McDonald. The Mars Hill and Blaine Jr. Extension Scholarships were awarded to Caleb Grass and Tyson White. The Mars Hill FFA Local Scholarship was awarded to Caleb Grass.
The Mars Hill Rotary Scholarship was awarded to Alexandria Dame. The MELMAC Scholarship was awarded to Greg Cousins. The National Honor Society Scholarship was awarded to Cameron York. The NMCC Presidential Scholarship was awarded to Michelle Tweedie. The Ruth Bubar Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Lee Gagnon.
The Sargent and Tweedie Transportation Scholarships were awarded to Lisa-Marie Mean, Michelle Tweedie and Jordan Robinson. The Senator George Mitchell Scholarship was awarded to Kara Cushman. The York Family Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Kara Cushman. The Timothy N. Tweedie Scholarships were awarded to Lee Gagnon and Miranda Levesque.
The Tyson Ford Perry Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Alexandria Dame. The Mars Hill and Blaine Winterfest Scholarships were awarded to Tyson White and Logan McCarthy. The Yale and Mary Adelman Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Sarah Long and Ashley Brewer.
The ACI Alumni Scholarships were awarded to Cameron York and Logan McCarthy. The Aroostook Lodge 197 Scholarships were awarded to Greg Cousins and Amber Bradley. The Barry Barker Tweedie Scholarships were awarded to Kara Cushman, Abby young, Megan DeLong, Ashley Brewer and Latisha Neece. The BCA Alumni Scholarship was awarded to Ryan Kilcollins.
The Earl and Boyce Bradbury Scholarship was awarded to Megan DeLong. The Emmett “Bud” Porter Scholarship was awarded to Cameron York. The Ricker College Scholarships were awarded to Cameron York and Alexandria Dame. The Sidney Bradley Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Amber Bradley. The Bridgewater PTCO Scholarships were awarded to Ashlee Prior, Megan DeLong and Shelby Hallett.
There was almost $64,000 in scholarships awarded during Class Night and at Graduation. Ninety-four percent of the graduating class plans to continue their education.
