GOOD AS NEW — The front of Allies Inc. is as good as new after repairs were made to replace the plate glass window, which had been vandalized after a football-sized rock had been thrown through it on June 23.
Josue Echevarria, 19 of Monticello, was charged with aggravated criminal mischief after angrily heaving a football-sized rock, which had been on a fountain in town square, through the plate-glass window front of Allies Inc.
A female employee was working inside the building, just before 5:30 p.m., when she heard a loud crash in the lobby. The employee then witnessed four people standing outside the building on the sidewalk. Two of the young men outside took off running from the scene as soon as the employee checked to see what the commotion was about.
“I thought for sure it was one of the boys who ran away,” explained the employee. “The other two guys just stood there calmly, then sat down to have a cigarette.”
The rock, after crashing through the window, became embedded in the sheetrock wall inside the building.
Echevarria eventually left the street corner in front of Allies and headed away from the town square. He was picked up very quickly after the incident while walking on Highland Ave. and admitted to being the responsible party and claimed to have thrown the rock because he was “mad”.
Echevarria was soon after taken to the Aroostook County Jail, where his bail was set for $500.
Due to the amount of damage involved in the incident, Echevarria is facing a Class C felony charge, and is set to appear in court on September 18. The maximum penalty for a Class C felony is five years in prison.
