Antique appraisals part of Maple Meadow Farm Festival

MAPLETON – Mapleton Daze has a flurry of activities planned this year including antique appraisals at the Maple Meadow Farm Festival. The Maple Meadow Farm Festival features fine crafts and quality antiques along with draft team and antique farming demonstrations, as well as hands on leaning opportunities.

One goal of the festival is to showcase the best of the past while educating folks about the history and traditions of a rural culture. To help achieve this goal, two of the antique vendors attending the festival have agreed to appraise antiques along with displaying their own wares.
Mike True, of Lille Antiques, brings 34 years of experience in the antique business to the Festival. His first store was opened in western Maine in 1974. Since then, he has become a licensed/bonded auctioneer. True taught mathematics at the Maine School of Science and Math in Limestone until retiring in 2002.
“My interest in antiques has been a life long pursuit,” said True.
Because True is experienced with the current markets in Aroostook County for antiques, he is able to give estimates on local values, as well as the values in markets closer to Boston. He will share his expertise on Saturday afternoon with guests who wish to bring their treasures to be appraised.
Stephen Dickinson of Dickinson & Obotls is knowledgeable about the history of bottles and stoneware. He travels to Canada and the eastern United States attending antique fairs to sell and buy antiques including, but not limited to, bottles and stoneware. Stephen is employed at TAMC in the computer technology department. He will be giving appraisals both on Saturday and Sunday.
There is no fee associated with the antique appraisals. It is a unique and fun opportunity for those who are interested in learning about the past by examining the treasures they have acquired. The Gregg Family expects this new component will be of interest to many of the visitors to this celebration of country camaraderie on June 28-29 at 830 Mapleton Road on Rte 163 West, three miles from Presque Isle toward Mapleton.
