Dot McDuffie looks over the plants she selected at the recent annual Perennial Plant Sale sponsored by the Friends of the Caribou Public Library. McDuffie is seated next to the library’s Children’s Garden, created in memory of Barbara Brewer.
“The sale was a big success again this year,” said Library Director Diane Dubois. “We are very grateful to the area gardeners who donated plants for this fund-raiser, the event would not be possible without their generosity and support,” she added.
Proceeds from the annual sale are used to sponsor the Babies and Books Program and the Teen Summer Reading Programs. The recent event raised $505.90 which will be designated to these programs.
Each gardener who participated during the morning sale was encouraged to sign up for a garden-oriented door prize, created by Friends of the Library member Dora Leavitt of Caribou. This year’s winner was Diane Leighton of Limestone.
The annual Perennial Plant Sale is held in June each year. Those wishing more information regarding this event or the Friends of the Library group are asked to contact the Caribou Public Library at 493-4214.

Caribou Historical Society member Joe Bouchard, checks out the garden, during the recent open house held at the historical site. Bouchard started the garden a few years ago and works diligently to keep it blooming. “I really like these Japanese Lanterns, some people don’t, but I think they are very showy and they bloom throughout the fall,” said Bouchard. Bouchard also noted that eventually he would like to see a pole barn build just behind the garden, so the society would have a place to display all of the old farming machinery it has accummulated.
