Vikings split doubleheaders

    CARIBOU – Viking baseball fans enjoyed two edge-of-your-seat ballgames that remained undecided until the final innings as Caribou met with Hermon for their Class B doubleheader Saturday.

    In the opening game, Caribou scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to pull away for the 3-2 win. Senior Philip St. Peter hit a double and single, and Jarryd Rossignol singled twice for CHS.
    In the final game, Hermon rounded all the bases four times to comeback for a 6-4 victory. Rossignol knocked three singles across the field for the Vikings, and Justin McLaughlin posted two singles.
    Similarly close calls played out at the softball field as the Vikings split their doubleheader with the Hawks, 5-4 Hermon in the first and 7-6 Caribou in the second.
    In the opener, Serena Grier pelted four singles and Ashley Doucette hit two singles for CHS. In the second game, Ali Richards hit a double and a single while Kristen Espling added a double for Caribou.
Vikings claim field in home opener
    Caribou softball and baseball hosted Fort Kent to a doubleheader defeat last Wednesday at the Viking fields.
    Viking softball ruled the diamond winning the first game 22-2 and the second 26-1. In the opening game, Caribou’s Doucette posted three singles and one triple, and Richards swung for a double and a single. In the final, pitcher Espling threw for five innings with no hits. Espling also helped at the plate with two doubles and two singles. Richards added two doubles, a triple and a single. Katie Ouellette had three singles while Grier hit a double and two singles. Kylie Landeen hit a double for Caribou.
    Viking baseball pitching held the Warrior batters at bay in their two-game sweep, 13-1 in the first and 6-2 in the second.
    In the opener, Rossignol struck out nine batters allowing only one hit to lead Caribou defense. At bat, Mike Doucette found his pitch for two doubles to put in two runners. Brandon Caverhill added two singles and one RBI, and McLaughlin hit a double and a single. In the final, Cameron Anderson swung for two doubles and two RBIs while Seth Sager hit two doubles and one RBI. Philip St. Peter added three singles.
