To the editor:
What was so special about the week of May 6-12? Could it have been that Spring finally arrived here or the last bit of snow was gone? It was National Nurses Week! National Nurses Week is celebrated annually from May 6, also known as National Nurses Day, through May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. As of 1998, May 8 was designated as National Student Nurses Day, to be celebrated annually. And as of 2003, National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week each year.
We at the Maine Veterans’ Home would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute, not only to all of our fine nurses that help to make our Home a better place for our residents to live, but also all nurses that serve their profession well. Even though the special week has passed, if you see a nurse this week, let them know how much they are appreciated.
