Lacey Boone, center, representing the Battered Women’s Shelter, gratefully accepted a wide variety of personal care products for the shelter, donated by the Caribou American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 15. Presenting the donation to Boone are left, Shelley O’Rourke, out going auxiliary president and, Rosalie Kelly, the unit’s current 2nd vice-president and incoming president. All products donated to the Battered Women’s Shelter were purchased by auxiliary members.

Representing the Batter’s Women’s Shelter, Lacey Boone, said, “We really appreciate these donations, it’s a big help. We try to have individual personal care products on hand to give to anyone entering the shelter, it just helps these ladies feel a little more comfortable, to have something of their own,” she added.
“Sometimes, they just don’t have time to take these things with them, often times they come to us without having time to get  their own clothing,” stated Boone, “so if we can help make things a little easier, it seems to help them,” she added.
Boone also commented,” We are actively looking for volunteers to staff our hot-line. There is a 30 hour training course that must be completed,” said Boone.
Anyone interested may call for more information at 764-2977, or contact the Caribou office  at 498-6146.
The Battered Women’s hotline is available 24-hours a day. Other services offered through this project include child support services, open support groups, school-based education and court services.
The local auxiliary unit makes these donations periodically with all items being purchased by the auxiliary members themselves. This has been an ongoing project of the group for the past five or six years.
