LEWISTON – Evelyn M. Thomas, 73, of Lewiston died May 8, 2008, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of Walter D. Thomas.
She was born on June 23, 1934, in Quincy, Mass., the daughter of the late Paul A. and Alberta (Landry) Murphy. She grew up in Waltham (Mass), and was a 1952 graduate of Waltham High School. A self-employeed tailor for many years in Massachusetts, she also served as a volunteer for Hospice and Home Care organizations there.
A lover of nature, she enjoyed summering at her camp on Timoney Lake in Oakfield. In retirement, she served as volunteer at the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and at the Houlton Regional Hospital.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her brother, Paul E. Murphy of Nevada; a daughter, Ruth Patrick and her husband Robert; and four grandchildren, all of Massachusetts.
A Christian funeral service was held on May 13, at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Whitman, Mass., followed by internment at the Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree, Mass. In lieu of flowers, Evelyn’s family requested that donations be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society.
