WESTBROOK — The Maine Credit Union League, in conjunction with the Aroostook Chapter of Credit Unions and the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF), has launched a safe and secure Web site to collect contributions for credit unions in Aroostook County to use to help credit union members affected by the worst-flooding in that region in 100 years.
Recently, the northern portions of Aroostook County, primarily in the St. John River Valley that borders Canada, experienced significant flooding that has caused untold thousands, likely millions, of dollars in damage to that region. The flooding comes on the heels of a record winter snowfall that had already created hardships for many in that area. The flooding forced the evacuation of hundreds of homes.
In response to this disaster, credit unions in Aroostook County are asking for your help. Applications for assistance will be distributed at all credit unions in Aroostook County and, from all indications, there are many credit union members that have suffered significant losses and will be in need of immediate financial assistance. Any assistance and contributions to enable credit unions in Aroostook County to come to the aid of credit union members who have been impacted as a result of this disaster would be appreciated.
