Albert Clukey is recuperating at home following surgery on his right ankle, which was injured some time ago. Right now he is hobbling around on crutches and busy planning to plant his vegetable garden as soon as all the snow is gone.   Mary Lou Pomeroy and daughter, Jane Foster, have been recent visitors in Island Falls. While here they met with Patti Hartin and Riva and all enjoyed lunch at Tiffany’s. Following lunch Mary Lou and Jane visited the library to see the new addition there before returning home to Caribou.  Clayton and Charlene Webb have returned home after visiting for several days with Charlene’s sister and husband, Freela and Clayton Lancaster, in Dexter. While there they helped celebrate Freela’s birthday along with other family members and friends.
Lots of excitement in Island Falls when the Mattawamkeag River and Dyer Brook overflowed their banks. Several sections of the town were flooded and Rt. 2 was blocked off plus the Old Patten Road and Sewall Street. Everything was back to normal, though, the next day. Still have that coon hanging around my feeders but am trying to discourage him by not putting out any seeds in the late afternoon. The Red Polls are so pretty it’s fun to watch them darting around my cedar tree. The neighborhood black cat is still trying to catch one of them but no luck so far. Now that the grass is turning so nice and green on my back lawn the deer are having a great time chomping on it. My faithful three are still arriving and I still give them some bread and apples, which they promptly devour. All my cedar trees on the back lawn sure show where the deer chewed them during the winter and the snow was so high they chewed quite a ways up.
