Reporter Debra Walsh asked Caribou High School students: “Why should a special day be designated for mothers?”
Sarah-Jeanne McGlinn, Junior: “Before we were even born our mothers have taken care of us. They designate their lives to us, why not give them a day to relax and be recognized for everything they do? I believe that we, as daughters and sons, can extend our gratitude through the simple action of dedicating one day to our mothers.”
Brittany Doak, Sophomore: “Mother’s Day is an important day to celebrate because it provides a day dedicated to just moms, recognizing them for all the hard work they do. Mothers sacrifice day in and day out for their children. So, just one day for mothers is important to take the opportunity to give back.”
Amanda Pelletier, Senior: "A mother has a very important role in a family. She’s nurturing, a great listener and cooks your favorite meals. Why NOT designate a special day for mothers?"
Sherri Zbylut, Senior: "It allows us to recognize one of the most important figures in our lives. I love my mother. She’s always there for me. Forget about just one day; they should dedicate an entire month to our mothers."
Marie Solomita, Senior: "I have no idea what I would do without my mom. She is seriously the greatest person in my life. I can’t tell you how much she does for me. I think that having Mother’s Day isn’t even enough. I should be thanking my mom every day. Thanks Mom for everything you do, even still making my lunch."
Casey Lancaster, Senior: "Mothers deserve a special day because, not only to they give birth to you, they do all the things that make your life easier. We designate Mother’s Day because of all that they have done to make our lives better. They should have their own day to feel special. I know that without my mom there, my life would be many times harder and I don’t how I’d survive."
Danielle Pelkey, Senior: "Your mother is the one that gives birth to you. She is there to support and love you. She is a main person in a family. I couldn’t imagine not having my mother there to see all of my accomplishments."
Luke Finnemore, Senior: "I think we all appreciate what our mothers do, but we never really recognize it. The day is a way to pay homage to all that our mothers do for us."
