Tears shed as piano teacher prepares to move to central Maine

Piano recital
On Saturday, May 3, the piano students of Carolyn O’Donnell held their Afternoon of Music piano recital at the Advent Christian Church in Dunntown.
There was an array of recital pieces,  from themes including lullaby time, circus, patriotic, historically-based, hymns, movie themes, rock and roll, classical, ragtime, blues and jazz.

The audience filled the music room at the church to enjoy the music, and lots of photos were taken. This was a bittersweet recital, as it is the last year for lessons from Carolyn O’Donnell, as they will be moving to central Maine before fall. Tears were hard to keep back as her students presented her with gifts and flowers, and recognition that included her husband, Tim O’Donnell, by giving him a special gift as well and noting that their daughter, Amy, had made the trip home for the special event.
Carolyn O’Donnell really ended the musical event in a special way. For the first time in a recital, she closed the activity by playing a piece herself. She gave a fine rendition of “The Lord’s Prayer” and received a standing ovation from the teary-eyed audience.
Guests were invited downstairs for a buffet of fruit, cheese and crackers, Carolyn’s ‘signature’ punch and a taste of either white or chocolate cake made by Ardis Humphrey and decorated with the students’ names. Students performing included: Elizabeth White, Tessa Cannon, Kaitlyn Maynard, Aaron Swanson, Alyssa Sweeney, Nick Silver, McCall Turner, Shannon Sweeney, Kassy Belk, Clarissa Buck, Maegan Fitzpatrick, Anna Cannon, Elizabeth Gagnon, Cameron Huston, Madeline Cannon, Paige McEachern, Kayla Schurman, Rebecca Campbell and Nolan Gagnon. Students nable to perform at or attend the recital included: Nicole Olson, Zachary Fowler and Adam Curtis.

First turkey for area hunter
Ten-year-old Kyle Rider got his first turkey on Saturday, April 28, in Montville. He made the hunting trip with his dad and friends who go yearly to a cabin in Montville.
Kyle’s trophy turkey weighed in at a huge 18 pounds and sported a 9-inch beard! Kyle noted that his father had told him shooting turkeys was a hard thing to do, but he sure thought it was an easy feat. There is no information on where Tom Turkey will be spending Thanksgiving this year, but wherever it will be, there will surely be enough meat on it for everyone.
Kyle and his parents, Adam and Angela Rider, live in Mapleton, and the proud grandparents include Snuffy and Joyce Pinette, of Wade, and Ron and Diane Sites, of Mapleton.
