CARIBOU – A Masardis woman was named the lucky winner of a romantic weekend getaway at the Lucerne Inn in a recent fund-raising raffle to benefit the Northern Maine Veterans’ Cemetery Corporation.

“Sheila Lyons, of Masardis, was the lucky winner of the weekend getaway at the Lucerne Inn, as well as the cocktail ring and other items that were included in the prize,” said Harry Hafford, chairperson of the NMVCC.
Hafford said the raffle was a huge success, with all tickets being sold.
“The entire Cemetery Committee would like to thank everyone that supported this raffle by purchasing tickets and also the businesses that donated items for the raffle, including: Wilder’s Jewelry, The Silver Basket, Bradley’s Citgo, Dwight’s Barber Shop, Ashland 1 Stop, Dead River Convenience Store, Daigle Oil and Governor’s Restaurant,” said Hafford.
The effort raised $4,700 for the cemetery, with funds designated to address the goose problem at the facility.
“All proceeds will assist with the Veterans’ Cemetery Canadian Goose Berm Project,” said Hafford.
