The two CPR 5-week old tiger twins, Kit and Kyle, have discovered wider horizons. Mother Rachel will just get comfortable when the two rascals are up and running across the room, out the office door and under the bed. Little Kit has vision in only one eye, but that does not hold her back. Kit also has one speed and one direction – fast and up – just like her brother, Kyle. When Kit gets into trouble, she yowls for Kyle. Kyle yowls for Mother Rachel. Mother yowls for Norma.
This past week Burrelles’ employees raised over $200 dollars with a $1.00 PAWS promotion within their worksite.
Phil’s Greenhouse & Garden Center highlighted a CPR promotion at their Antique Weekend and presented CPR director, Pauline Woods, with a check of $438.
DFAS employees are currently working within their worksite gathering needed pet and office supplies for CPR.
Paradis Shop & constantly keeps a shopping cart in the front of their store to enable shoppers to support CPR. They also keep a collection donation box for customers to choose to put some change in each week. We are grateful too for the families who support us with memberships and donations.
These gifts help us financially, but they also lift the heart of each volunteer as we struggle to help the helpless. The gifts lift us when struggles make one want to say “Why? Why do we try?” Your kindness moves us onward for the health and safety of these adorable pets.
Our Philip, the shy male foster cat, is downstairs today playing laser mouse with the old man in the recliner. They have become best friends this past week. One day, Philip looked at Everett and cooed (yes, cooed) to be petted. Everett lost his heart completely. Philip now runs all around the house and play wrestles with all my cats except Charity who carries grudges against changes in her lifestyle. Whenever Everett takes a break from raking leaves, he barely sits down in his recliner before Philip is on the arm of the chair to greet him. Philip has reverted to his mother’s teaching. “Humans are OK and they have their place.”
This week I am writing with the help of Mother Rachel, a young black mother of two young, silly kittens. Mother Rachel and her 5 babies were very ill when she arrived. We had to supplement feedings around the clock until Rachel was feeling better. Three babies did not survive. Having now recovered, Rachel is a fantastic mother of superior intelligence and as funny her two babies.
At first, the babies & Rachel were in a cage on heating pads in my office. Now they have the run of the two rooms, office and bedroom. When the babies were in the cage, Mother Rachel would allow all of my cats and foster cats to come visit and play while I worked in my office. But once the babies wanted out of the cage, Mother Rachel became a female Rambo. No animals are allowed near her free-roaming babies. This means only Mother Rachel and her youngsters have access to the upstairs.
The two 5-week old tiger twins have discovered wider horizons. Mother Rachel will just get comfortable when the two rascals are up and running across the room, out the office door and under my bed. I can almost hear Mother Rachel sigh with fatigue as she jumps up to follow them, singing all the way. She speaks continually to them and, like most kids, Kit and Kyle do not listen to mother at all. What a wonderful, happy nut house we have here. Like mothers of all species, Mother Rachel and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
