Grades five and six girls’ basketball
The Comets put five players in the scoring column en route to the 21-9 decision over the Liberty. Morgan Wilcox led the way with eight points, followed by six points from Emma Kinney. Kelsey Burlock tallied four points, Bridgette Carrier added two points and Abby Clark chipped in with one point.
Amy Trask headed the Liberty attack with four points. Sister Ashley Trask contributed two points, as did Amanda Palmer. Lora Ireland rounded out the scoring with one point.
Krystal Kingsbury scorched the nets for a game-high 20 points to help the Stars top the Liberty, 32-20. Carly Bell and Kalie Ward each finished with four points, and Erin Ackerson and Jessica Cameron popped in two points apiece. Palmer led a balanced attack for the Liberty with six points. Ashley Trask was next with five points, and Ireland tallied three points. The trio of Jordi Legassie, Kelsey Gilson and Makenzie Taubin helped out with two points each.
Grades five and six boys’ basketball
Nick Raineri poured in 14 of his game-high 18 points in the first quarter as the Celtics outgunned the Pistons, 47-32. Noah Rossignol, Keeghan Lowe and Patrick Burnett each tallied eight points for the Celtics. Travis Sylvain finished with three points, and Jacob Keane added two points. The Pistons got 14 points via the hot shooting of both Matthew Tilley and Chase Norton. Cody Kennedy chipped in with the other four Piston points.
Ben Buckley erupted for a game-high 20 points, including 16 in the first half, to help the Clippers top the Spurs, 42-24. Grayden Hemphill also finished in double-digits, scoring 10 points. Tyler Seeley added eight points, and Brian Fournier rounded out the Clipper attack with four points. Aaron Kofstad paced the Spurs with 10 points, including eight in the second half, to lead the comeback attempt. Andrew Paterson popped in six points, and Liam Hughes ended with four points. The duo of Cody McGlinn and Jacob Carter chipped in with two points apiece.
Drew Bates knocked down a game high 14 points as the Pistons topped the Spurs, 32-22. Tilley helped out with eight points, and Norton added seven. Jamey Lessard rounded out the scoring with three points. Paterson was the high man for the Spurs with 10 points. McGlinn tallied seven points, and Ryder Soucy added four points. Kofstad contributed one point to bring the Spurs total to 22.
The Clippers put three players in double figures on their way to the 36-31 win over the Celtics. Hemphill led the way with 12 points. Buckley and Seeley each poured in 10 points, and Jordan Lyford added the other four Clipper points. Raineri once again paced the Celtics with a game high 15 points. Jacob Keane, Burnett and Sylvain all ended with four points. Kyle Nadeau and Rossignol chipped in with two points apiece.
Grades five and six travel basketball
The Presque Isle girls put five players in the scoring column en route to the 32-24 victory over Madawaska. Krystal Kingsbury led the balanced attack with nine points. Kelsey Burlock netted eight points, and Jenna Hallett chipped in with six points. Makenzie Taubin and Morgan Wilcox finished with five and four points, respectively.
The Presque Isle boys dropped a hard fought game to Madawaska, 47-34. Patrick Burnett scored 10 of his team-high 12 points in the second half to lead the comeback. Tyler Seeley also tallied double-digits, finishing with 11 points. Aaron Kofstad knocked down six second half points. Liam Hughes and Matthew Tilley both finished with two points, and Ryder Soucy rounded out the scoring with one point.
The boys got back on their winning ways with a convincing 47-20 decision over Washburn. Burnett once again paced the offense, exploding for 20 points. Nick Raineri popped in nine second half points. Tilley and Jamey Lessard each contributed eight points, while Hughes chipped in with two points.
Father/Daughter Valentine’s Dance
The Presque Isle Recreation & Parks Department’s annual Father/Daughter Valentine’s Dance is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. The event is open to girls’ grades kindergarten through sixth and their fathers. Advance tickets are on sale. The cost is $6 per couple.
Archery
The Presque Isle Recreation Department will be offering an archery program on Sundays from 6:30 to 9 p.m. This is an informal, drop-in, program with a $6 fee for each night of shooting. There will be no archery on Sunday, Feb. 3.
