Students of the Month
In a continuing effort to recognize outstanding student citizenship, the faculty of Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School announces that Shannon Todd, Michelle Milbrath and Alexandria Dame have been selected as the December “Students of the Month.” They were selected in recognition of their commitment to the pillar of character, specifically the pillar for the 2007-2008 school year, respect.
Shannon is a member of the eighth-grade class and lists art and history as her favorite subjects. Shannon enjoys swimming, playing sports and hanging out with her friends. She is a member of the junior high chorus and band, as well as the eighth-grade yearbook committee. She hopes to maintain good grades and become a member of the National Honor Society in high school. She also plans to someday attend college to become a history teacher. Shannon is the daughter of Perrin and Wendy Todd.
Michelle is a member of the junior class and lists art, gym, critical writing, and chemistry as her favorite subjects. Michelle enjoys skiing, singing, ice skating and playing volleyball. In the future, Michelle plans on working in the fulltime Bible education work that is being done worldwide by Jehovah’s Witnesses. She is the daughter of Jan and Mark Milbrath.
Alex is a member of the senior class and lists art and forensics as her favorite subjects. She is a member of the varsity soccer, basketball and softball teams, as well as the National Honor Society and yearbook committee. Alex enjoys playing sports, reading and completing primitive stitcheries. Her future plans involve going to college to become a nurse. Alex is the daughter of Stephen and Debra Dame.
Community Cupboard
The Mars Hill Community Cupboard is in need of volunteers. They are looking for people interested in serving their community and those in need by volunteering in the monthly food distributions. Volunteers are needed to bag groceries or fill out paperwork at the monthly 2-hour distributions a few times each year.
Anyone interested must be a responsible individual who respects clients’ confidentiality. If you are interested, please contact Cathy Cropley, chairman of the Mars Hill Community Cupboard, at 429-8043.
Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met at the Aroostook Health Center on Tuesday morning at 6 a.m.
A special thank you was given by Dr. Nicholas for the Appreciation Dinner given in his honor.
Rotarian Larry Fletcher gave his classification. He worked for Larry Smith at a local gas station while he was in school. After graduation, and a summer of flagging for a road crew, he worked for Smith for 14 years. After Smith’s retirement, Larry decided to open his own repair garage. He built a garage at the corner of Fort Street and Boynton, where he is still keeping busy.
He says that his job hasn’t changed much over the years, but his title has gone from grease monkey to auto technician. He enjoys working with the public, and enjoys the regulars that come each day to enjoy his “coffee.” Larry joined the Rotary Club in 1983 and has held several offices over the years.
Birthday Calendars
The Rotary Birthday Calendars have arrived and are available for purchase. Due to the increased cost, the price of the calendars is $6 this year.
Calendars will be available from any Rotarian, at the Mars Hill and Blaine Town Offices, and at the Mars Hill Katahdin Trust Co. If you received your calendar last year through a Rotarian, they may be contacting you again this year.
For any corrections or additions, please contact Tomi Henderson at 429-9126.

The History of Bridgewater
The Bridgewater Sesquicentennial Committee has just received copies of “The History of Bridgewater, Maine” written and originally published by Annie E. Rideout in 1953.
The Henrietta Bradstreet family and Helen Rideout, heirs to the copyright of the book, graciously granted
written permission to the Sesquicentennial Committee to have the book reprinted as part of the town’s celebration activities planned for July 21-26.
The Committee received the permission just before Henrietta’s death this fall, and an acknowledgement to the heirs of Annie Rideout has been included in the reprint of the book.
Net proceeds from the sale of this copy of “The History of Bridgewater, Maine” will be donated to a charity designated by the Rideout heirs in memory of Megan Bradstreet, Henrietta’s great-granddaughter, who died in a tragic accident in 2005.
The cost of the book is $25 plus $1.25 sales tax plus $5.25 for shipping/handling for a total of $31.50. Anyone wishing to purchase a copy can e-mail Diane Clough at e&dclough@ainop.com, Rita Kingsbury at rmkme@ainop.com, or call Rita Kingsbury at 429-9359.
