Youth league travels to Canada

    GRAND FALLS – The Presque Isle youth hockey novice team traveled to Grand Falls, N.B. on Jan .6th to play in the Grand Falls Jamboree Hockey Tournament.

    In the first game, PI faced the Grand Falls number-two team. The PI offense; Sarah Beaulieu, Thomas Patenaude, Dren Belmain, Devin Ireland, Eric Benson and Isaac Madore; all skated aggressively. The lineup had a combined 21 shots against the Grand Falls goalie. Benson had a breakaway goal, and Belmain’s persistence earned him a goal as well.
    The defensive line; Denny Young, Gregory Jellison and Alex Brewer; kept their sticks to the ice in assisting keeper Heinz Shumacher.
    The PI squad faced defeat, but to players received awards. Beaulieu received the Hustler award and Benson earned Most Valuable Player.
    The second matchup was against Grand Falls number-three.
    PI took 33 shots on goal, but still suffered a defeat. Another two players received awards at the end of the game. Young earned the Hustler award, and Brewer was honored with MVP.
    The novice team is coached by Pierre Patenaude who is assisted by Scott Madore, Tim Beldon and Kevin Schumacher.
