Caribou Police Officer Barry Dombroski recently resigned from the force. Dombroski who has served as an officer with the Caribou Police Department for the past 22 years has recently found himself an object of public scrutiny due to an OUI charge in August of last year. Dombroski was placed on administrative leave following an August 17 incident in which he was stopped in Presque Isle by Presque Isle Police Department Patrolman Larry Fickett and found to be over the legal limit of .08 percent blood alcohol content. Dombroski was released that night on $40 bail.
Dombroski went to trial on Oct. 24 prior to which he completed a substance abuse evaluation by a registered substance abuse agency.
Maine District Court Judge Bernard O’Mara sentenced Dombroski to 90 days suspended license, 48 hours in jail and a $500 fine. Dombroski also completed a Drug Education Evaluation Program, DEEP Course.
Dombroski returned to the Caribou Police Department following completion of his sentence with the support of the Caribou Police Department.
“He understands that like anyone who has a disease he needs to deal with it every day, and the department is trying to help him deal with it. We’re trying to support him,” said Police Chief Michael Gahagan at the time of Dombroski’s return.
Dombroski’s return was to be short lived however as he resigned within a few weeks of his return. Dombroski’s resignation was effective as of Jan. 6 of this year.
