Animal shelter receives generous offer: Donor agrees to pay adoption fees for next 50 cats

To the editor:
The Houlton Humane Society has just received an offer from a very generous donor, stating that he will pay the adoption fee for the next fifty cats adopted from the Shelter. As you know, the Shelter has over 160 cats in residence at this time and kitten season is fast approaching once again. We have no place to put new arrivals and many cages are housing multiple cats. If the adoption fee has prevented you from considering adding a feline to your happy household, then please take advantage of this offer and stop by the shelter to pick out your new companion.
Please remember that there is an application process to determine eligibility for adoption. We want to make sure all animals go into good homes, forever homes, and we do have a few rules. If you rent, you must have the permission of your landlord to adopt and we do check with the landlords. If you have other animals at home, they must all be spayed or neutered. If you have a history of adopting animals and then returning them, you would not be eligible for a new adoption. If you are under 18, your parents must accompany you to the shelter and approve of the adoption.
We have some of the most gorgeous animals just waiting for you to take them home. Please consider giving one of our long term residents a chance. We have one kitty who has lived at the Shelter for two years now and she would really like to go into a loving home. There are kittens, young adults, and every color imaginable from Tuxedo kitties to Calicos, Maine Coons, beautiful long haired buff and orange, tigers, you name it. Some with extra toes! And to top off the free adoption, every single new owner will receive a bag of Hills Science Diet cat food, compliments of the Hills Science Diet company!
Shelter cats are also available for adoption from Hollywood Pet Salon. Thank you all for caring for the homeless!
