Schools note support

To the editor:
On behalf of Northern Maine Community College, the University of Maine at Fort Kent and the University of Maine at Presque Isle, we would like to express our appreciation for the support we received on Bond Propositions Two and Three from the citizens of Aroostook County on Nov. 6.     The success of both bonds will mean enhanced economic development through research and development, and better public higher education for all of Maine. They also promise distinctive benefits for Aroostook County. Most immediately, they bring $3.5 million for classroom and laboratory improvements at our three campuses.
The $3.5 million will also bring additional dollars from outside of the County to complete these needed projects. We plan to spend all of this money frugally for essential projects. All three campuses have already gone through a careful study of needed building improvements. We knew that the dollars available from a successful Bond campaign could only support a portion of these needs. In making our selections, we have chosen only the most essential projects and the ones that promise the most attractive returns on our investment, such as reducing energy costs.
We look forward to completing these essential projects as promptly as is sensible and in showing the results of the work to the entire County. We couldn’t have done it without your support.
