With nary a question or comment, the 2008 budgets for Aroostook County government and administration for the county’s unorganized territories were approved Monday night after a public hearing.
The county’s Finance Committee and the County Commissioners each approved the two budgets during a short session in the Superior Courtroom. The $6.8 million budget for Aroostook County will result in a 3.6 percent increase in the collection of taxes. The actual amount of budget expenditures show an increase of less than 1 percent, according to the spending plan. County officials also approved a $1.1 million budget spending plan for the county’s unorganized territories, which called for a 2.9 percent increase in taxes.
Those in attendance at the hearing consisted of county department heads and other agencies which receive funding from the county.
During the hearing, Douglas Beaulieu, county administrator, outlined the budget and offered to answer any questions. Finance Committee Chairman Duncan Beaton also offered the audience an opportunity to comment.
“Hearing none, I adjourn the public hearing,” Beaton said.
