‘We haven’t lost the war’

To the editor:
I want to thank all the citizens of Caribou who voted for me during the last election. Even though I lost my bid for the council seat, I want to assure you that we haven’t lost the war. I also want to congratulate my opponent and wish him the best, and would hope that he represents “all” the people in this community well.     As I’ve expressed in the past, there are things in our local government that have to be looked into and changed. I do believe that it is in the power of the city council to do just that, thereby establishing fair and logical doctrine to this community.
Also, we are an aging population that requires most elderly to choose between taxes, a roof over their heads, food on their tables, and fuel to heat their homes. Having said that, I would hope that this council would be sensitive to that issue and be more careful with its spending habits and provide for some intelligent response to their needs.
I also want to assure the citizens who voted for me that I haven’t lost my zeal to implement change in the mindset of some in this community that we can afford everything without consequence. But that requires all the private sector citizens of this community who pay all the taxes to support the establishment to come forward and express their concerns. Anyone who has any reasonable and viable ideas to bring changes that are of benefit to the taxpayers in keeping our taxes at a reasonable level, feel free to call me anytime and I would be glad to make presentations to the city council on your behalf if you choose and think that you are not capable of doing it yourself.
Also, I want to remind the council that a good government is one that sticks to the business that is germane to the health and well-being of its citizens and has no place in private sector functions. My past experience on the Caribou City Council on this matter can be very valuable to those on the Council who do not have a clear understanding of the issue of which I speak. Again, I extend a helping hand to those in charge to clarify my point of view. You are also free to call me any time if you so choose.
Having said all that, I want to wish all on the Council good luck in your endeavors to make Caribou a place of choice where we live. Let the games begin.
