To the editor:
Most of you know that Caprice Miller, Connie Tucker and I were awarded Pine Tree Chapter American Red Cross Hero Award recently for being the founders of the Caribou Pet Rescue. Connie was on her way to Florida, Caprice had the flu herself plus four of her children, so I alone, of the three, was honored at the breakfast reception. I thank the Girl Scout Troop 240 for bringing this recognition to Caribou Pet Rescue. However, the true heroes are all of you, hundreds of people, so many of you who are doing so many different things that it is impossible to mention each individually.
Without each and every one of you, CPR would never have been successful. Caprice, Connie and I knew the need of homeless animals in this area was horrific, but CPR could not have stood the toil and struggles without the volunteers, employees, board member, community supporters, Presque Isle Animal Hospital and monetary supporters. Even though we have helped well over 1,000 animals in this first 19 months of operation, we still have a long way to go to stabilize our pet rescue. But we are on the right road and we have learned many valuable lessons which will help us in the future.
You are all the true heroes of CPR and I thank you for all that YOU have done and for all the things you may continue to do for these helpless animals.
Norma Milton, president
