Brewer & Mars Hill – Shirley H. Shaw 88, wife of the late Leslie J. Shaw, died November 11, 2007 at her home in Brewer. She was born May 29, 1919 in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada the daughter of William and Marjorie (McQuarrie) Roach. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mars Hill. Shirley had been employed as a cook at the Mars Hill Hospital for over ten years. She was a member of the Goodwill Club, the Community Club and was a past president of the Mars Hill Fire Department Auxiliary.
Predeceasing her besides her husband of 56 years, were a son Wesley Shaw; a daughter Betty Lou Whildin; sisters Cassie Brown, Mary Butler, and Gerry Weeks; brothers Patrick, Leonard, Herbert, Lawrence and James Roach. Surviving her are three daughters and their husbands, JoAnne and Dick Ault of Chipley, FL, Susan and Jim Rocha of Dedham and Marge and Robert Petersen of Brewer; 15 grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a brother William Roach of Perth Andover, NB, Canada; a daughter-in-law Gladys Shaw of Inverness, FL, and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece Jean-Ann Lauritsen and a special nephew Terry Weeks.
Relatives and friends called at the Duncan Funeral Home from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13th. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mars Hill with the Rev. Raymond Morency celebrant. Interment in the Kings Grove Cemetery in Mars Hill.
