The Subway location on Bennett Drive in Caribou recently finished renovations to the facility which included a new sandwich unit, and new Tuscany decor which consists of new furniture, wallpaper and pictures. The renovations are part of a national project by Subway to make their dining areas fresher and brighter. The Caribou location is the fourth of the seven Subway locations in Aroostook County  to receive the new look. Shown in front of the new sandwhich unit are from left: Allie Bouchard, Mark Carey, owner, Heather Pelletier and Vanessa MacDonald.

Renovations include a new and improved sandwich unit, and a new dining room décor, which includes new furniture, wallpaper and pictures. Altogether the renovations cost about $50,000 according to owner Mark Carey.
The process took a week longer than planned due to damage to the new equipment. Subway had originally planned to reopen their doors on Thursday, Nov. 1, but was forced to delay the reopening until Thursday, Nov. 8 due to damage to the new sandwich unit done during shipping.
According to Carey the renovations were part of a national Subway remodeling policy to “install new improved equipment and a brighter, fresher dining area.”
Renovations were completed by Cole’s Construction of Washburn while, electrical work was completed by Tech Electric of Woodland.
Other Aroostook County locations that have already made the switch to the new décor include the Fort Fairfield location which moved into the P.P.J.S. Irving convenience store with the new décor in February of 2005, the Madawaska location which moved from the mid-town shopping center into D. and M. Plaza with the new décor in July of this year and the Presque Isle location which moved from its Main Street location, next door to a free standing building with the new decor in May of 2006.
According to Carey renovations are planned for the Mars Hill and Houlton locations early next year and for the Fort Kent location in the fall of 2008.
“We invite everyone to stop in and enjoy a great meal and see our new decor,” said Carey.
The Caribou Subway currently employs an average of 10-12 employees. The Caribou location opened in Sept. of 1994.
