Five residents of the West Gate Trailer Park in Caribou were among nearly 70 individuals indicted last week by an Aroostook County grand jury. The four men and one woman allegedly were involved in a string of burglaries and thefts in Caribou and Cross Lake (T-16 R-5) over the last two years, according to investigators.
Indicted were John Drake, 35; Tammie R. Howard, 38; Paul C. Morse, 38; John H. Carpenter, 34 and Craig Bryant, 26.
Aroostook County District Attorney Neale T. Adams said Tuesday that two of the defendants, Morse and Howard, had newspaper delivery routes which may have allowed them the chance to observe several residences.
“It gives you opportunity,” Adams said.
Court records indicated that items stolen include guns, tools and clothing. Morse also was charged with burglaries and thefts in Easton and Monticello, where a puppy and a go-cart were allegedly stolen, according to court records.
Adams said that the Caribou Police Department has recovered quite a bit of the stolen items, but that there’s still more at the defendants’ residences, for which owners haven’t been located. Some of the stolen items were pawned, Adams said.
Morse was charged with 14 counts of burglary. 12 counts of theft and a count of operating a motor vehicle after license revocation.
Drake was charged with 11 counts of burglary and nine counts of theft. Howard faces 12 counts of burglary and ten counts of theft. Carpenter was charged with nine counts of burglary and six counts of theft, while Bryant faces nine counts of burglary and seven counts of theft.
Drake, Morse and Carpenter are scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday, Nov. 21 in Aroostook County Superior Court in Caribou. No arraignment dates have been scheduled as yet for Howard and Bryant.
