Ashby, Loomis Dudley, 93, of Presque Isle, died September 24, 2007 at the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2007 at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Auburn. A Mass in memory will be said 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Presque Isle. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at www.duncan-graves.com. PRESQUE ISLE – Loomis Dudley Ashby, 93, died Monday, September 24, 2007 at the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou. He was born in Fort Fairfield on May 1, 1914, the son of Fred and Myrtie (Haley) Ashby.
Dudley attended and graduated from P.I.H.S. and the University of Maine at Orono. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII and was stationed in Panama. He was the first pilot for the Maine Forest Fire Watch. He worked on engines on the power dams in the woods for Maine Public Service. Dudley was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed spending time in the Northern Maine Woods and the Millinocket Lake Area, and he worked as a guide. He loved to read and traveled the world through books. Most recently he lived in Fort Fairfield, but truly enjoyed visits from his friends from Echo Lake and Green Ridge.
He is survived by three generations of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother James Hanlon Ashby and a sister Hope Elizabeth Underwood.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mark and Emily Turner Memorial Library, 39 Second St., Presque Isle, or to the Maine Veterans Cemetery, 37 Lombard Rd., Caribou, Maine 04736.
