Business Website basics this week
    The Northern Maine Development Commission and the Maine Small Business Development Center, with support from the Houlton/Hodgdon Adult Education, will be offering a workshop entitled “Business Website Basics” this Thursday at the Houlton Higher Education Center.  Participants will learn the fundamentals of how the Internet and websites really work and what it will take to develop a website for their business.  Topics include how to choose a domain name, web hosting, and whether and how to hire a website designer or to select a do-it-yourself option.  In addition, the discussion will include how to add e-commerce — the ability to sell products and services on the web – to a website.  The workshop will be presented by Marita Fairfield; Ms. Fairfield is the Women’s Business Center Director and counselor for Internet/Websites for the Women’s Business Center at Coastal Enterprises, Inc.

Cake Decorating
    A cake decorating class is scheduled to begin Thursday, Oct. 18 at the Houlton High School. The course will run from 6 – 9 p.m. for eight weeks, the instructor is Sherri Quint and the course fee is $35, plus the cost of materials. To register, call MSAD 29/70 Adult Education at 521-3154.
Woodworking
    Woodworking class will begin at the Houlton High School shop on Thursday, Oct. 18, and will run for eight weeks from 4:30 – 7 p.m. The instructor is Fred Pelletier and the course fee is $45, plus the cost of materials. To register, call MSAD 29/70 Adult Education at 521-3154.
