The 2007 Twilight League completed its season last week with some exciting play. In the Ladies’ League, the underdog team of Lori Holmes and Theresa Bragan defeated the Linda Holmes/Harriet Gray team by a stroke on the last hole to claim the 2007 championship.     In the Men’s League, the Rick Goodwin/Kevin (Sandy) McPhee team won the championship by beating the Gabe Goodwin/Daniel Peabody team. It took a 15-foot putt by McPhee on the last hole to grab the title.
It was a great turnout last Saturday for the Ryan Wright Memorial Elks Scramble, with 48 players taking part in a fun day of golf. In the end, a playoff hole was needed to determine the winners, as three teams tied after nine holes with a seven under par 29 score. Sam Wright/Dennis Wright and Ben Lynds claimed the tournament championship, with the Floyd/Dwyer team and the Clukey/Stewart/Stanley team both tied for second.
Sam Wright drove his tee shot 270 yards into the fairway, then his father Dennis stuck a nine iron 10 feet from the cup on the team’s second shot to the par 5 number six hole.  After the Floyd/Dwyer team and the Clukey/Stewart/Stanley team had each made birdie, Ben Lynds was looking at a 10-foot downhill, snaking putt in order to win. Ben calmly stood over the ball and knocked it in to make eagle and claim the tournament championship for his team. Congratulations to the winners and all who participated in this great scholarship cause.
The Houlton Golf Club will be closing on Sunday, Oct. 14 this year, so join us now for the last two weeks of golf.
