Something that is creeping up on us so fast … the month of October. October is “National Adopt a shelter dog” month. And boy, do I have good news for you. We have some wonderful ones at the shelter.

DRAW — Heather Miller, left and Holly Henderson show the painting being raffled by the Houlton Humane Society.
Let’s start with Gage. He is a handsome “ol Husky,” who is pretty laid back and would love a warm home of his own. Then there is Sasha, who I can honestly say is the complete opposite. She is a younger Rotti mix, who has a lot of energy, loves to play and wants someone to love her. Next is Maya. What a sweetheart! She is a little shy at first, but I know with some one on one, she will come around. And then there’s Jack. He’s an older white husky, who would love someone to give him some love and affection. Now I have taken pictures of all these dogs, whom I might say are very photogenic. All their pictures, along with our other adoptables are on our website: www.houltonhumanesociety.com. Take a few minutes, go on-line and take a peek. Their pictures speak so much louder then my words.
Now with that being said, have you ever seen the commercial for the bank that says the average American has $100 worth of change in their house? Most of you probably will agree that that is true. So what I want you to do for the month of October is find all your change and save it for Oct. 27. We are pleased to tell you that my friend Ester Faulkner has donated one of her wonderful paintings and let me tell you, it is gorgeous. We are going to be auctioning it off at our dance/supper fundraiser we are having on Saturday Oct. 27 at the Oakfield Community Center. When you see this painting up close, I know you will be glad you saved your change. Now only one of you will be lucky enough to win it, but don’t worry, we will have other items to auction off as well. We will also be having a buffet and dance that night. So save your pennies, bring your empty bellies and wear your dancing shoes for a night of food, friends and fun. See you there!
