SHERMAN MILLS and HOULTON – Phyllis (McLaughlin) Bowers, 83, died Sept. 13, 2007, at the home of her daughter in Houlton. She was born July 16, 1924, in Dyer Brook. She was the daughter of Kemp and Blanche (Friel) McLaughlin.
Phyllis graduated from Merrill High School and Ricker College. She was a member of Molunkus Valley Chapter O.E.S. No. 95, where she was past worthy matron, Molunkus Wo-men's Club, Molunkus Snowsled Club, Snowshoe Quilting Club, Shin Pond Babes and treasurer of Washburn Memorial Church for many years.
She is survived by her four children; daughter, Helen of Houlton; sons, Bill and his wife, Alison, of Cypress, Calif., Chris and his wife, Betty, of Carmel and Tony and his wife, Carmel, of Island Falls; grandchildren, Melissa, Sarah, Olivia, Kimberly, Jacquelyn, Christina, Antonia and Theodore; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Kole, Mark, Alexa, Kennedy, Dominic and Jaylen; one brother, Vern McLaughlin; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, the Honorable Rodney V. Bowers; a granddaughter, Mary Bowers; sister, Gertrude Morrison; and brother, Donald McLaughlin. A very special thanks to her caregivers, Dr. Abouleish, Dr. Sussman, Robynne Hoyt, Mary Newhouse, Mary Smith, Debbie Upton and Jane Zimmerman.
Friends called 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17 at Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls, with O.E.S. services held at 7 p.m. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Marilyn Rhodin officiating. Interment was held at Sherman Mills Cemetery.
