HOULTON — Monument Lodge of Masons in Houlton has announced its fall Symposium on Peace which will present various speakers on peace as considered in the writings of the great world religions. The announcement was made by Richard Rhoda, master of the lodge. Rhoda stressed that the meetings will be open to all people of the Southern Aroostook area. He said AWe want to be sure that all women and non-masons know that they are cordially invited.
Speakers at this time include Father Clement Thibodeau, a native of Caribou. He served for 43 years as a pastor through out Maine and had teaching assignments at Nasson and Husson colleges and Bangor Theological Seminary. He will speak on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at the request and on behalf of Bishop Richard Malone of the Roman Catholic Dioceses of Maine.
On November 28th Rabbi Darah Lerner of Congregation Beth El in Bangor will speak.
Meetings will begin at 7 p.m. at the Masonic Hall above the Temple Theater and will last about an hour. A chairlift is available. Lecturers will be followed by a question-and-answer period and by light refreshments served by the lodge. There will be no admission charge.
“We just want people to come, learn and have a broader base to build their tolerance of others’ religious belief upon.
Plan to attend the whole series if possible,” Rhoda said.
