Bigger is not better

To the editor:
The Governor is now proposing a jail takeover. His whole way of thinking is that bigger is better.
On the mandatory School Consolidation Plan, the most benefit is the elimination of about two thirds of the high-paying superintendent salaries. Local control is being lost.     If the Governor wants to save money, he should begin by cutting the size of State Government and benefits, then downsizing the Legislature and eliminating their benefits. He could also think about eliminating the County Commissioners.
Both of his proposals would benefit the other Maine and the larger towns and cities.
Coming attractions from Augusta would be to build a very large building with parking, storage, heating and related services on the first floor. The second floor would contain stores and businesses, the third floor, administrative offices. The rest of the building would be living quarters. People would not have to go outside for anything. This would be economical and financially efficient.
The Governor’s proposals go against the freedom-loving, independent-thinking and hard-working people of the State of Maine, many of whom are fighting for survival.
Bigger is not better.
