PRESQUE ISLE – Velma Mace Burner, 89, a resident of Presque Isle, Maine since August, 1999, died Sunday morning September 9, 2007 at her residence.
She was born October 7,1917 at Richwood, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Albert Luther and Bicie May (Gibson) Mace.
She was united in marriage September 7, 1940 in Ronceverte, West Virginia to the love of her life, Earl O. Burner, who preceded her in death on November 11, 2006.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Dave Ericsson of Tucson, Arizona and Pamela and Robert Palm of Presque Isle; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Janice Burner of Booneville, Arkansas; grandchildren Jennifer Whetstone and husband Steve of Hollywood, Maryland; Robert Ericsson and wife Katherine of Roanoke, Virginia; Hillary Lisnik and husband Eric of Henderson, Nevada; Gregory Palm of Presque Isle; Andrea Burner of Sulphur, Louisiana; Erica Mattingly, and Grant Burner, of Booneville. Great-grandchildren are Emily and Noah Whetstone, Sophie and Jack Ericsson, Anthony Mattingly, and Isabella Lisnik.
She was preceded in death by her six brothers, Eugene, Carl, Dana, Kenneth, William and Edward; and a sister, Ruth Woodrum.
Mrs. Burner had been active in garden clubs, newcomer clubs, and square dancers in Cumberland, Maryland, Elkins, West Virginia, and other communities in which she had lived. She was an avid bridge player, along with her husband, and played in several groups. A Methodist all her life, she had been an active member of the Cresaptown United Methodist Church in Cumberland. She had also volunteered with the PTA, scouts, and the hospital. Mrs. Burner had retired from managing the Diplomat Motel in Cumberland, MD with her husband, she had enjoyed traveling and taking cruises.
