Presque Isle High School recently held its spring sports athletic awards ceremony. Participants were presented certificates, letters, pins, sweatshirts and jackets by their coaches for all their hard work this season.
For the junior varsity softball team, coach Peter Coffin presented certificates to the following freshmen: Meghan Boucher, Naiomi Donovan, Amy Grivois, Anna Harris, Alyssa Huston, Haley Johnston, Alicia Kierstead, Jordyn Kinney, Elizabeth Kofstad, Lindsie LaPointe, Bethany Lord, Haley McHatten, Ashley Nickerson, Kelsey Park and Jenna Stephenson. Junior Amber Shaw was also awarded a certificate.
Coach James York presented the junior varsity softball team with certificates for participation. Freshmen receiving the award were Ryan Bernier, Ethan Braley, Zac Campbell, Matt Chasse, Amos Dean, Alex Doody, Keenan Eaton, Dillon Kingsbury, Brennen Shaw, Ryan Thibeau, Justin Towle, Ethan York and Justin Lewin, manager.
Sophomores earning certificates for JV baseball were Chase Lunney and Matt Parsons; and juniors Josh Chasse, Lucas McPherson, Layne Waddell and Ryan Whittaker were also recognized.
Tim Dolley, the girls varsity tennis team coach, presented freshman Madelyn Carson and senior Ana Cerqueira with their first varsity letters. Receiving second-year varsity letters were sophomores Brittany Bearden, Sarah Porter and Jennifer Steeves. Courtney Hoffses, a junior, also received her second-year letter.
Also, juniors Allison Dean, Nicole Jimenez and Amy Michaud were presented with their third-year letters.
The boys varsity tennis team coach Greg Miller presented freshmen Zach Barnes and Kyle Gilson and sophomores Cameron Fagin, Lucas Mathers and Cameron Winter with certificates. Chris Cawley, freshman, and Eric Morris, sophomore, received their first-year letters; Alex Carter and Ben Picard, both sophomores, were awarded their second-year letters; Sam Picard, junior, was given a third-year letter; and seniors Sam Porter and Faizaan Shamsi were awarded their fourth-year letter.
For the girls track and field team, Ron McAtee, coach, and assistant coach Mike Waugh distributed the awards. Receiving certificates were sophomores Brittany Brown, Marissa Littlefield and managers Desiree Higgins and Jenna Watt. Also receiving a certificate was Alicia Jones, junior.
Earning their first-year letter were freshmen Hallie Bartlett, Julia Brown, Jerica Fox, Kailee Ireland and Jenna Kitchen; Melissa Morrison, sophomore; and Krystin Jandreau, junior.
Second-year letters were given to sophomores Krista Buck, Jocelyn Davis, Amber Griffin, Sarah Tompkins and Katrina Whittier; and also to junior, Arielle Googins.
Juniors Erin Thomas and Ashley Williamson were awarded third-year letters. Katie Buob, senior, was awarded her fourth-year letter.
Boys track and field coach, Lori Googins, and assistant coach, Adam Murchison, gave certificates to the following athletes: freshmen Jacob Brawn, Anthony Carbone, Chase Guerrette, Josh Jones and Aaron Nightingale; sophomores Peter Deschaine, Seth Doughty, Mathew Dunn, Matthew Flora, Dustin Graham and Ryan Jones; and juniors T.J. Anderson, Nathan Cronkite and Josh Jouvelakos.
First-year letters were awarded to freshman Nathan Ackerson; sophomore Lucas Richards; Mathew Harris, junior; and seniors Joe Johnson, Nathan Smith and Seth Swanson.
Sophomores Brandon Hafford, Jason Johnson and Evan Richards were awarded their second-year letters. Also, Gerard Desjardins, Elizan McLean, Corey Park and Ryan Winslow, all juniors were given their second letter; as well as Tom Barnes, senior.
Parker Brown, junior, was given his third-year letter for track and field at the ceremony.
Varsity softball coach Alan Curtis and assistant coach, Mark White, gave certificates to the following athletes: Alyssa Huston and Kelsey Park, freshmen; and Amber Shaw and Darryl Ann Girardin, manager, both juniors.
Earning their first varsity letter for the sport were freshmen Jodie Buckley and Krista Coffin; Kayla Legassie, sophomore; juniors Tiffany Martin and Keisha Ward; and Heather Fowler, senior. Second-year letter winners were Emilee Currie and Allison Young, both sophomores; and Melissa McGary, junior.
Athletes presented with their third-year letters were Allisen Donovan and Caroline Freeman, both juniors; and Janna Clukey, Chelsea Glovins, Molly Hamel and Angela Norsworthy, seniors.
On the varsity baseball team, Tim Olore, coach, and Tim McCue, assistant coach presented the managers, Kristina Theriault, freshman, and Kaitlin Lambert, sophomore, with their certificates.
Earning their first-year letters for the sport were freshmen Ethan Braley, Matt Chasse, Amos Dean, Steve Ford, Dillon Kingsbury and Brennan Shaw; sophomore Warren Zubrick; junior Nic Gallant; and senior Trent Legassie.
Second-year letters were given to Bennett Cassidy, junior; and Chris Beaulieu and Dan McCue, seniors. Luke Ireland and Logan York, both seniors, were given their third-year letters.
Athletes who earned six varsity letters in any combination of sports were also awarded sweatshirts for their accomplishments. Those receiving their sweatshirts were Tom Barnes, in cross country, skiing and track and field; Allisen Donovan, in soccer, cheering and softball; Caroline Freeman, in cross country and softball; Amber Griffin, in soccer, skiing and track and field; Luke Ireland, in soccer, basketball and baseball; Joe Johnson, in cross country, swimming and track and field; Trent Legassie, in soccer, basketball, track and field and baseball; Corey Park, in soccer, skiing and track and field; Sam Picard, as a soccer manager, basketball manager and in tennis; and Sarah Porter, in soccer, basketball and tennis.
Senior athletes who lettered all four years in one specific sport were given a varsity jacket. Athletes receiving this recognition for their spring sports team were Sam Porter, Faizaan Shamsi and Katie Buob.
The Varsity Club presented the Gary Demerchant Soccer Award to Trent Legassie at the ceremony. Also, the Donny White Memorial Baseball Award was given to Logan York; and Luke Ireland received the Aaron S. Archer Baseball Award.
