PRESQUE ISLE – A Maine-based mutual insurance company with strong ties to Aroostook County has contributed $10,000 to the Campaign for the County’s College, the major gifts campaign to raise scholarship and instructional technology funds for Northern Maine Community College and to assist the institution in meeting immediate community needs.
Patriot Mutual Insurance Co., which is headquartered in Brunswick, has been offering products and services to consumers and businesses throughout New England since 1966. The company has directed their gift toward meeting areas of greatest need.
“Patriot Mutual Insurance Co. is pleased to be able to contribute to the Campaign for the County’s College, and we are excited to be part of the campaign that will enhance workforce skills and contribute greatly to the economic prosperity that ‘The County’ so deserves,” said Robert Clark of Fort Fairfield, who serves as president of the Patriot Mutual Insurance board of directors.
Clark and Peter Hunt, also of Fort Fairfield, who serves as treasurer of the board, are the two members representing Aroostook County on the seven-member board.
“Patriot Mutual is very pleased to be able to make this donation,” said Hunt. “We look forward to the day when NMCC can provide an insurance related curriculum.”
The Campaign for the County’s College, named to reflect both the impact of NMCC in the region, as well as how the College community mirrors the aspirations of Aroostook and its people, is designed to support the outstanding tradition of teaching and learning for which the institution is known. The campaign, with a goal of raising $2 million by next February, also provides an opportunity to invest in positioning the College to meet the community’s education and workforce demands for years to come.
According to NMCC President Timothy Crowley, the Patriot Mutual contribution is both greatly appreciated and indicative of the College’s positive reputation throughout the state.
“We are very fortunate to have friends and supporters of the institution like Bob Clark and Peter Hunt. Their efforts and those of many others on our behalf, coupled with the long-standing reputation NMCC enjoys of sending qualified graduates into the workforce throughout the state and working collaboratively with businesses and industry in our region at meeting their needs, is helping us to garner support for this campaign from all over Maine,” said Crowley.
The Campaign for the County’s College features three primary funds. The first, the Accessing Opportunity Fund, will allow the College Foundation to provide financial assistance through endowed scholarships and awards to deserving students. The Investing in Innovation Fund is a technology endowment fund that will ensure the college can keep pace with changing instructional technology. A third, the College and Community Advancement Fund, will provide an immediate source of funding, allowing NMCC to launch new curricula and respond promptly to evolving community needs.
