Party
A surprise 80th birthday party was held for Frank Whittaker on June 2 at Leisure Village. It was put on by his children, Cindy Bomar, Scott Whittaker and Darrell Whittaker. Thirty-five guests attended, including his sister, Dorothy Moore and family of Dover Foxcroft; his brother, Elmer Whittaker of Caribou and family.

Also a niece, Barbara McKay and her husband, made the long trip from Connecticut, as did a niece, Landy Piper and husband from Canada. Besides his children, others from Easton who helped him celebrate were: Harold Kinney, Loretta Brown, Phil Flanigan, Vera Cullins and Glenda Davis and many close friends from Leisure Gardens.
Visits
We’re back!  Clair and Eldora Carter returned to Easton on June 4, after spending nearly two weeks with their daughter, Andrea Celayeta, husband, Antonio, and children, Adam and Alyce, in Fruita, Colorado. The next evening after arriving they attended the Two Chairs Theater Co. in Grand Junction, where eight one-act plays were put on. One of the plays, “Break of Day,” a comedy, was written by their son, Jeff Carter, of San Francisco. It was well received.
They were also there to attend the graduation ceremony of their grandson, Adam, from Mesa College in Grand Junction. Their granddaughter, Alyce, treated them to a barbeque at her home in Grand Junction, where she is also a student at Mesa College. While there they were driven to Gateway, Colo., where they had lunch and toured the motel complex owned by the owner of the Discovery and Animal Planet TV channels. A separate Old Car Museum was of great interest in this complex, where a prototype of an Oldsmobile 88 was on display. This car was never built and the Channel owner bought it at auction for $3.24 million dollars. A great place to visit if anyone is ever in that area. After returning to Portland, they visited with their sons, Dana and family, of Scarborough, Wendell and family of Saco, and Mike and Beth, of Portland, for three days before driving back to Easton.
Congratulations
Congratulations goes out to Aaron Thomas Baier, son of Carmen Larsen Baier and John and Ann Baier of Oxford, N.Y., on his recent graduation from SUNY Cortland. Aaron has now obtained his bachelor of science degree in psychology and was inducted into the Honors Society for psychology students known as Psi Chi. He is currently working for Access to Independence, an Independent Living Center located in Cortland, N.Y., as a peer mentoring specialist. Aaron is helped in his work by a seeing eye dog.
Congratulations also goes out to Michelle Osgood, a senior and valedictorian at Easton Jr./Sr. High School Class of 2007, for being recognized for academic achievement as a United States National Honor Student Award winner by the United States Achievement Academy. She will be in the Academy’s Yearbook which is published nationally. This is a very smart young lady and her parents, Tom and Ann Osgood, are very proud of her, as are her brothers and other relatives.
Our congratulations also go out to those young Easton people who graduated from the Northern Maine Community College this year: liberal arts – Brandon Carlow and Harold Kierstead; in nursing – Christopher Andrews; and in automotive body repair – Eric Condon.
Congratulations to Jeffrey Kimball who earned the place of valedictorian at the University of Maine in Presque Isle, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in behavioral science with a minor in criminal justice. He started college after serving a term in the Coast Guard. Others from Easton to graduate this year from UMPI were: Jenna Flint, graduating magna cum laude; Elizabeth Eberhardt, graduating cum laude; Janet Marie Fitzmaurice and Jennifer (Craig) Morin. Congratulations!
Hospitalized
Mother’s Day weekend was not a very good one for Rollie and Freda Dionne. They drove to Massachusetts on a Thursday to spend Mother’s Day with their daughters, Cynthia Plourde and Linda Hansen, when shortly after arriving they got news of the sudden and unexpected death of their son-in-law, Tom Perkins, of Grafton, N.H. They drove up to Grafton to be with their daughter, Brenda, and the next day Freda stumbled and fell, breaking her hip in three places. Needless to say she spent Mother’s Day in a New Hampshire hospital, in surgery. A few days later they drove home. Linda came with them to help get her mother settled, staying a few days. Freda is up and going with a walker, though suffering some pain.  You can’t keep a good woman down!!
Darrell Page was taken back to Dana Farber over two weeks ago for more tests and medication. It is thought that he will be there at least another week, maybe longer. We do hold Darrell in our prayers.
Flora Adams has returned to the Mars Hill Health Care Facility after spending a several days at home.
