Athlete of the Week
The Varsity Club and Big Cheese Pizza are pleased to congratulate track and field team members Katrina Whittier and Elizan McLean for being selected as athletes of the week for the week of May 7-12.
Katrina has qualified for the state track and field meet in the following events: 400 meter run, shot put and the 300 meter hurdles. She is listed in the top five in all these events in Class B, statewide.
Elizan placed first in the 100 meter hurdles and second in the 300 meter hurdles in the track and field meet held at the Johnson Athletic Complex on May 12.

Community Spirit Day
Presque Isle’s Community Spirit Day will be Saturday, May 19. There are several projects you can help with to help prepare our city for summer. Projects include, but are not limited to, cleaning and painting at the outdoor pool, picking up garbage along the bike path, painting and clearing brush at Riverside Park, and helping clean up along Main Street. Benefit auction for Chasse
A benefit auction will be held for the Chasse family on Friday, June 1 at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Chapman Street in Presque Isle. Mike Chasse, son of Tom and Rhonda Chasse, was involved in a serious skiing accident on March 1 in Utah. The accident left Mike with a spinal cord injury. The proceeds from the auction will be used to purchase adaptive equipment in anticipation of Mike’s return home at the end of June.
The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a brownie-a-la-mode and time for browsing the items, with the auction to run from 7-9 p.m. 50/50 tickets will also be sold and the drawing will take place at the end of the evening. Items up for bid in the auction include a mountain bike, Big Rock season pass, Spyder Jackets, fitness memberships, a ton of pellets and much more. There will be something to fit everyone’s interests and price range.
C.A.N.C.E.R. Golf Tourney
The Presque Isle Country Club is hosting the C.A.N.C.E.R. Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 2, with a rain date of June 3. The event will be a four-person scramble format with gross and net prizes for both men and women. The team entry fee is $160, which includes 18 holes of golf, games with prizes, team mulligan and hot dogs and soda.
Hole no. eight will offer a $10,000 hole in one prize. The other par three holes will offer auxiliary prizes for a hole in one. All team members must have a current handicap card. Any team not able to provide a card for each member will only compete for the gross prizes.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and there will be a 9 a.m. shot gun start. Please make checks payable to: C.A.N.C.E.R., care of Alexis Madore, 57 Canterbury Street, Presque Isle. Checks must be mailed before May 25. Applications can be obtained at all local courses or by calling 762-6500. Please call the Presque Isle Country Club at 764-0430 to reserve golf carts. All the profits from the tournament will stay in Aroostook County.
American Legion tryouts
The American Legion baseball Patriots/Aroostook County team will be holding its tryouts on Sunday, June 3 at the Presque Isle High School. Players born on or after January 1, 1988 are eligible. Athletes must have a copy of their birth certificates. If there are any questions, call Richard Parsons at 764-7213.

The Portage Hills Country Club will be opening this Saturday, May 19. For more information, call the clubhouse at 435-8221.
Hooked on Fishing field day
The sixth annual Hooked on Fishing Field Day will be taking place June 2 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Mantle Lake Park. Prizes will be given to the young fisherman who catches the first trout, greatest total length of fish (up to five fish) and largest trout caught. Other prizes will be awarded throughout the day.
