May is Foster Parent Appreciation and Awareness Month

To the editor:
Do you often wonder what you can do to make a difference? By becoming a foster parent to a child, you can help shape their lives, get them on the right track to a successful future, and make a lifelong impression.
May is Foster Parent Appreciation and Awareness Month and communities in Maine are seeking more foster parents for children and youths of all ages, especially teenagers. Currently 2,584 Maine children and youth require placement in foster homes.
There are numerous foster parents throughout Aroostook County that have opened their hearts and homes to children and youth in need. Foster parents live and work in our towns as community leaders, school teachers, business owners, church pastors, and military personnel. If you know someone who is a foster parent, please take a minute and thank them for the work they do. They should be appreciated for opening their homes and providing 24-hour care and supervision for these children.
Community Care would like to honor the families who currently are making a difference in the lives of children in foster care. If you are interested in becoming a foster parent you can contact Community Care at 1-888-236-2237.
