Presque Isle Pitch, Hit & Run Contest
Local youth can showcase their baseball skills of throwing, hitting and base-running as the Presque Isle Recreation & Parks is again holding a Pitch, Hit and Run contest. The competition is free and open to all Presque Isle area boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 14. It will take place
Tuesday, May 29, at the Pine Street diamond in Presque Isle. Registration begins at 6 p.m., with the competition starting at 6:30 p.m.
Local winners will advance to the sectionals at the University of Maine at Orono in June. Top performers at the sectionals will be eligible to advance to the team championships in Boston and winners from there move on to the nationals during the Major League Baseball All-Star weekend in Pittsburgh, Penn.
Summer Programs
Brochures for Presque Isle’s summer programs are now available at the recreation center. Registration begins May 23 for Presque Isle residents, and non-residents may register beginning May 29. Registration must be done in person; none will be accepted over the phone or via fax. Please contact the recreation office at 764-2545 with any questions.
Adult Softball
Presque Isle Recreation & Parks is currently accepting teams for its coed and mens softball leagues. The team registration and deposits are due immediately. Teams interested or those with questions should stop by or contact the recreation office at 764-2545.
Community Spirit Day
Presque Isle’s Community Spirit Day has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 26, due to weather. There are several projects you can help with to prepare our city for summer. Projects include, but are not limited to: cleaning and painting at the outdoor pool, picking up garbage along the bike path, painting and clearing brush at Riverside Park, and helping clean up along Main Street. Fort Fairfield Summer recreational programs
Registration is required for all summer recreation activities and programs. Parents can register their children for programs at the Fort Fairfield Community Center on Monday, June 11 and Tuesday, June 12 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. (some programs begin earlier and require registration prior to June 11 and 12). All program fees are to be paid during the registration period. Those programs that require fees will indicate the fee in the program description. There are a limited number of openings with some programs so be sure to register early.

T-ball
T-ball is for boys and girls ages 5-8. This program will allow 5-8 year-olds to hit off a stationary tee and learn some of the basic fundamental skills of baseball. The boys and girls will be separated this summer to be able to incorporate this program with the summer reading program. T-Ball for girls will be on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9:30-10:30 a.m. T-Ball for boys will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Both programs will meet at the Charlie Lockhart Field located behind the Middle/High School.
There is no fee for this program. The program begins on Monday, June 18 and will end on Thursday, August 2. In the event of rain, the alternative site for the program will be at the Community Center for the week of June 18 and the week of June 25. Beginning the first week of July, the alternative rain location will be the Elementary School gymnasium.
Major league baseball
The Major League is for boys and girls ages 10-12 as of May 1, 2007. This program will get under way with a practice on Tuesday, May 29 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Charlie Lockhart Field located behind the high school. The Major League baseball team will play at least 15 games this summer beginning the week of June 18 and ending the week of July 30. There will be a playoff tournament for the Major League division at the end of the regular season. Games will be played against teams from Washburn, Easton, Mars Hill, Fort Fairfield, Limestone, and other towns from throughout Aroostook County. The team will travel to these other communities as well as host games here in Fort Fairfield. Register by calling the Community Center at 472-3882.
