Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society
The Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society is in desperate need of new members and need fresh ideas. Please give them an hour of your time once a month to help keep the building operating. The fund-raisers they have are just paying their expenses and leave them with little else to do their projects. If you have enjoyed voting, going to town meetings, their suppers, having a reasonable hall to rent right in your own town, and other events, please consider helping to keep their organization going for future years. Working member is $10 per year, or $15 for non-working member or $100 for a lifetime membership. Their meetings are the fourth Tuesday of the month from February through November.
They have candy bars on sale at Chandler Farms, Percy’s Auto Sales, and the Mapleton Town Office. You can also get them from any member. They have only 30 cookbooks left. These will become collectors’ items, as there will not be another re-printing. They will start renting the hall in May until October. Please see any member for details. Further projects and events will be listed. Please support them.
They are requesting that anyone who has knowledge of a veteran who served in the military between 1903 to the present to write or call Natalie Maynard, 2877 State Road, Castle Hill, Maine 04757 or 764-4878. They need names, dates, and any information you can give them so they can place the names on a sign or in a book in the future. The person must have been a resident of Castle Hill at the time of service.

Mapleton United Methodist Church
Modern Day Jeremiah is a contemporary praise and worship band from Orrington. The group began just over two years ago as a concept of Pastor Adam Soderberg and Youth Pastor Andrew Geaghan to lead a non-traditional worship service at the East Orrington Congregational Church. The songs chosen by the group were uplifting with positive messages of faith and praise, but with a more contemporary feel than the traditional hymns. The service, known as W.O.W. (or Worship Our Way) was one that many members of the church began supporting and attending regularly every Sunday night.
The group began being moved by the spirit and the music they were playing, and soon began writing original songs and performing them at the worship service. In early 2005, the group made its first recording and held its first concert to help support Tsunami relief efforts. The success that the concert received made the band feel they could take what they did on the road. Their first concert was held in the spring of 2005 at the United Methodist Church in Mapleton. The experience was just another sign for the band to believe in what they were doing, as well as to let God direct the group to different churches with a message of Christ’s love and how to begin to build a relationship with our one and only Savior. Since then, the band has taken this message to locations all over northern and central Maine, Haverhill, Mass., and most recently to Hartford, Conn., where the group had an opportunity to open for InPop recording artists Casting Pearls.
The band has also used these wonderful experiences to write two full-length albums, Carry the Light and most recently, United As One: Songs of Praise and Worship. Worship leaders include Andrew Geaghan, Jonathan Goupee, Andrew Matson, Carlie Mason, Tracy Haskell and Cory Deshane. Youth from the United Methodist Churches of Mapleton, Washburn and Presque Isle are raising money to attend “Youth 2007,” an international youth event in North Carolina in July. One of the members of Modern Day Jeremiah attended the “Youth ‘99” event, which became a meaningful experience in his life as a young Christian. The 21 students and nine adults have been working hard for over a year to raise $25,000. We have done everything from dinner/auctions, penny carnivals to making an Aroostookopoly game, which was a bit hit. We still have a few discount cards available. For just $10, you can get discounts at 15 businesses in the Caribou and Presque Isle area such as Reno’s, Hogan Tire, Riverside Inn Restaurant, Giggey’s Auto Repair and the Caribou Bowl ‘O Drove & Sports Inn, plus 10 others! To make a donation, please call 768-5877. For more information on the Youth2007 event, check out the website at www.youth2007.org.
