Community Spirit Day May 26

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Cold weather and rain showers caused the postponement of Community Spirit Day from last Saturday to May 26.
City officials are hoping turnout will be good this weekend, since temperatures are supposed to be a bit warmer with only a possible shower predicted.
“The event has been rescheduled for Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon because of rain and cold temperatures last weekend,” said Chris Beaulieu, event organizer.
Those who had already volunteered were contacted and made aware of the change. But organizers said there’s plenty of work if anyone is still interested in lending a hand – or two.
“Signup is still possible through May 23,” said City Manager Tom Stevens.
A barbecue is still being planned at Riverside Park, with city officials serving as cooks. Projects for the morning including sprucing up the public pool, painting benches at Riverside Park and picking up trash along the bike path.
Anyone interested in participating can call 764-2545 or e-mail pirec@maine.rr.com for more information or to sign up.
In other city news, City Hall will be closed on Monday, May 28, in observance of Memorial Day. Offices will resume regular hours on Tuesday, May 29.
